What is GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide-1)?

GHK-Cu is the copper peptide behind a lot of skin and hair products. The evidence for it is real, and most of it is for putting it on rather than injecting it.

Also sold as copper tripeptide-1, GHK copper or copper peptide.

GHK is a three amino acid sequence that binds copper and occurs naturally in blood, where levels fall steadily with age. Bound to copper it stimulates collagen production, promotes wound healing and appears to act on a wide set of genes involved in tissue repair. It is one of the better characterised peptides here.

Who is GHK-Cu for?

People interested in skin quality, collagen and hair, which is where GHK-Cu has the most behind it. It is one of the few peptides here bought for appearance rather than performance.

Why is the solution blue?

The copper. GHK binds a copper ion and that complex is blue, so a correctly reconstituted vial is bright blue rather than clear.

A clear solution would be the thing to question, not a blue one.

Injected or applied to the skin?

Topical for skin and hair, which is where nearly all the good evidence sits. GHK-Cu is a well studied cosmetic ingredient and it works applied.

Injected for a systemic effect is a far less established use. If your goal is skin quality, applying it is both better supported and simpler.

Can I use it for hair loss?

There is reasonable evidence for GHK-Cu supporting follicle activity and it appears in hair preparations for that reason.

It is not a replacement for the established treatments if male pattern loss is what you are dealing with. Treat it as an addition rather than the answer.

Why only 30 days at a time?

Because of the copper. There is a theoretical concern about accumulation with prolonged high-dose use, and a month on with a break afterwards is the cautious approach that has become standard.

No. GHK-Cu is not androgenic and has no effect on testosterone.
