What is MELANOTAN II?
Melanotan II makes your skin tan far faster from far less sun. It also darkens your moles, which is the part that matters most.
Also sold as MT2, MT-II or melanotan.
Melanotan II is an analogue of alpha-MSH, the hormone that tells the pigment cells in your skin to produce melanin. Supplying it from outside makes those cells produce more, so you tan faster and darker from less sun. It also acts on receptors in the brain involved in arousal and appetite, which is where the other effects come from.
MELANOTAN II benefits
- Tans faster and darker from far less sun exposure
- The tan holds with occasional maintenance dosing
- Works on skin that normally burns rather than tans
- Increased libido and spontaneous erections, from the same receptor family PT-141 targets
- Some appetite suppression, which a number of people find useful
MELANOTAN II dosage
- Loading
- 250 to 500mcg per day until the colour arrives
- Maintenance
- 500mcg to 1mg, once or twice weekly
- Timing
- Before bed, to sleep through the nausea
- Route
- Subcutaneous
- UV needed
- Yes, short controlled exposure alongside
- Per vial
- 10mg
Start at 250mcg rather than 500. The nausea and flushing are dose related and the lower start makes the first week considerably more tolerable.
Loading continues until you have the colour you want, then it drops to a maintenance dose once or twice a week. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water. The reconstitution guide covers the method and the dosage calculator works out how much water to add for the dose you want.

Who is MELANOTAN II for?
People who burn rather than tan and want colour without the exposure that would normally take. That is a real use and it is why the compound became popular.
It is the wrong purchase for anyone with a lot of moles, very fair skin or any family history of skin cancer. If it is the libido effect you are interested in rather than the tan, PT-141 is the peptide developed for that specifically.
How to use MELANOTAN II
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water and refrigerate once mixed. Inject subcutaneously into the abdomen, before bed. Use short controlled UV exposure alongside and do not treat it as sun protection.
Frequently asked questions
Do I still need sun or a sunbed?
Yes. Melanotan II makes your pigment cells respond more strongly to UV; it does not replace the UV.
Without exposure you will get very little colour. And you can still burn while using it, so the sensible approach is short controlled exposure rather than treating it as protection.
Why does it make me feel sick?
Nausea in the first few doses is close to universal and it comes from the receptors this peptide hits in the brain rather than from anything going wrong.
It settles within the first week for most people. Injecting before bed is the standard workaround, because you sleep through the worst of it.
What about my moles?
They will darken, and new ones can appear. That is the most important thing to understand about this compound.
The problem is not the darkening itself, it is that a changing mole is also how melanoma presents, and melanotan makes that much harder to read. Get a dermatologist to look at your skin before you start, and get changes checked rather than assuming.
Why does it give me erections?
Melanotan II acts on melanocortin receptors in the brain, and one of those is involved in sexual arousal. Spontaneous erections in the first days are a very common side effect.
That effect is the basis of a separate product. PT-141 is a related peptide developed specifically for it, with far less of the tanning.
How long does the tan last?
Weeks rather than days once established, and maintenance dosing once or twice a week holds it with minimal further UV.
Stop entirely and it fades over a month or two as skin cells turn over, the same as any tan.
